Supporters point to lower fees than cards, no chargebacks, and customers who go out of their way to spend bitcoin. The trade-offs: few customers pay with it yet, the price swings, and payments can't be reversed.
Go deeperCard processing usually costs about 2.5% to 3.5% of each sale. Many bitcoin payment services charge less, and Square charges nothing for bitcoin payments through 2026. A bitcoin payment is final, so there are no chargebacks from fraud or disputes, but a mistake can't be pulled back either; a refund is a new payment. Many Bitcoiners make a point of supporting businesses that take it, and local meetups often share lists of them. If you don't want price risk, most services can turn each payment into dollars right away. Taxes and bookkeeping take a little more care.
