How we check answers

The Bitcoin Pocket Guide is free, independent, and reader supported. No ads and nothing to sell. Here's how the answers are made and kept accurate.

Where answers come from

Every answer is checked against trusted sources: Mastering Bitcoin, the open-source book by Andreas Antonopoulos and David Harding; the Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs), where changes to Bitcoin are written down; Bitcoin Optech, a respected technical newsletter; and bitcoin.org. Tax and scam facts come from official sources like the IRS and the FBI. Each answer lists its sources under "Learn more" so you can check for yourself.

Answers are drafted with help from Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, then checked against those sources and reviewed before they're published. That's different from the AI helper further down this page, whose answers are written on the spot and aren't reviewed.

The rules every answer follows

Keeping answers current

Bitcoin changes, so every answer shows the date it was last checked. The guide is reviewed for errors and outdated facts every week, and answers about laws, taxes, scams, and software get extra attention.

The AI helper

When the guide doesn't cover your question, you can ask the AI helper. Its answers are written on the spot by an AI model and are not reviewed by a person, so they're labeled "not reviewed yet." It's told to stick to the guide's checked answers where they apply, and it will never ask for your seed phrase. The questions people ask are saved privately (just the question, no names or IP addresses) so the most common ones can become checked answers.
