Is it safe to add a website to my home screen?

Quick answer

Usually, yes. It just makes a shortcut that opens the website in its own window. A saved website can't see your other apps, texts, or photos, and it can't touch your bitcoin. The real danger is what a site asks you to type in.

These saved sites are called progressive web apps. They have the same limits as the site in your browser, and your phone asks you first before one can use your location, camera, or notifications. Scammers still use the idea: in 2024, the security firm ESET found fake banking apps that victims were told to add to their home screens through texts, robocalls, and social media ads, all built to collect logins. So only add sites you reached yourself, check the address in your browser bar, and never type a seed phrase or password because a message told you to. This guide is a saved website too, and it never asks for your seed phrase, keys, or a login.
