On May 22, 2010, a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 bitcoin for two pizzas. It's known as the first real-world purchase with bitcoin.

At the time, those coins were worth about $41. Bitcoiners celebrate May 22 every year, usually by buying pizza, as a reminder of how far Bitcoin has come.
