Do I have to buy a whole bitcoin?

No. Each bitcoin splits into 100 million pieces called sats (short for satoshis). You can buy a few dollars' worth.

One sat is 0.00000001 BTC. Many Bitcoiners count in sats instead of whole coins. "Stacking sats" means buying small amounts regularly.
